You would not be surprised to realise that the recent MSN messenger incorporating Yahoo! a coincident eh?

In a rather surprising move but yet commercially positive move, Microsoft is buying out Yahoo! It is like Exxon Mobil buying Shell and BP. This move may prove to be good for both Microsoft and Yahoo! given that there should be a counter to the dominance of Google. Frankly speaking Google has a lot better social and community responsibility than the other two while the two Mr Googles are in helm. But if they were ever replaced by a commercialcentric person, Google could easily repeat what Microsoft had done in the late 90s.

Microsoft ain’t that bad given that Bill Gates have given most of what he has back via his own foundation, a move which had been echoed a few times over by the top ten tycoons in this world.

The internet world is an ever growing market. It is likely to get bigger. Google (thanks for the adsense income) has been the leader in search and a leader in online advertising. But like everything we do need an alternative to balance things out rather than let it be a monopoly so maybe this new merger might do us all good.

Its the end of 2006 and the long anticipated gaming consoles, mp3 players and camera-enabled music phones from all contendors have mostly already been released and are being enjoyed by all. We have yet to see the latest releases flourish in the market to its fullest extent, but what do we have to look forward to in 2007? Here are a few previews.

1. The Apple iTV

Though there are many rumours of the much speculated iPhone out there, one things for sure is the Apple iTV. Being the size of a paperback novel, it has the ability to stream video from your computer to your TV, wirelessly. Microsoft users, fret not. It is reportedly compatible as well.

2. DMFCs (direct methanol fuel cells) for phones

The communications titans of Japan promised to release an alternative to the standard lithium ion batteries for phones. The improvement is that the recharging is instant. Though currently in prototype, you can expect the technology to introduce itself in the coming year.

3. The Nokia N-Gage 2

The mobile phone giant plans to release a new line of hand-held gaming devices. It is reportly slicker and silver, and to be out by the first quarter.

4. Mercedes Benz Recy

Its a futuristic car that is entirely made of recyclable products. Taking the style of a classic SL roadster, its set out to save the environment.

5. HDDVD and Blu-Ray

The next generation of DVDs will make its mark with the creation of higher-capacity formats known by these two names through the two competing sides of the industry. As more and more films are released in these new formats, someday you will want to replace your standard DVD player.

Seems that the mixed reception for the Zune music player produced by Microsoft is making them rethink their marketing strategy.

The mixed early reception for its Zune music player means Microsoft will have to make early tweaks if it is to stand any chance of rattling Apple’s dominance of the digital music business, according to analysts.

That should mean announcements early in the New Year of new versions of the player and more wireless facilities, they said.

Microsoft “has to build momentum” to establish Zune as a music platform to rival iPod in the long term, said Mike McGuire, an analyst at Gartner. “If they don’t make a dent this Christmas, they’ll have to move fast” to improve the product.

Launched little more than two weeks ago, the player and accompanying online music service were developed and rushed out for the Christmas season in just eight months after Microsoft made an about-turn in its digital music strategy.

Initial sales in US stores put the Zune second to the iPod. The player accounted for 9 per cent of MP3 players sold in its first week, according to NPD, a market research group, compared to Apple’s 63 per cent.

But there have been signs that early interest in the Zune has faded fast. On Amazon.com’s listing of most popular electronic products, considered one measure of broader demand, Zune on Friday morning stood at number 62. That was well below rival MP3 players from SanDisk and Creative.

While some US stores sold out of Zune players early on, with demand particularly strong in urban areas near universities, others have seen weaker sales, said Richard Doherty, a digital media analyst at Envisioneering.

The launch has also been beset by problems with the machines – from limitations on sharing music with other Zune owners wirelessly, to the incompatibility with other online music systems.

Give it a little time to mature and Zune will be an iPod-beater. You can bet on that.

Ever wonder why your Google Pagerank jumps up and down like Mexican jumping beans? What makes your website or blog get listed in Google on the 15th page instead of the 1st? How do they arrange search results displayed to you?

Do you really want to know?

You can find the full explanation in this page here. Whether you bother to read it to the end or not is up to you. And if you do, whether you understand it is a whole different ballgame. If you’re a real math whiz, then go ahead, take it as leisure reading. To the rest of us, I think mysteries shall remain mysteries (and still try everything to attract traffic in our blogs anyway).

Good luck.

It looks like AMD is in an aggresive mode in trying to get a leading edge over their rival, Intel. After having purchased ATI to obtain their technology, the latest news is that they have purchased a license for new Z-RAM technology.

The people at AMD were so impressed by Innovative Silicon’s first-generation Z-RAM technology that they decided to license it back in January. Now, almost a year later, AMD has come back for more and purchased a license for ISi’s second-gen Z-RAM tech. Z-RAM, or zero capacitor RAM, is a type of capacitor-less embedded memory built on a silicon-on-insulator process. It can achieve significantly higher densities than the embedded SRAM memory typically found in processor caches.

According to EE Times, second-gen Z-RAM is expected to allow chips to store 5Mb (625KB) of data per square millimeter on a 65nm process. Using this technology, a 65nm processor could theoretically pack 10MB of cache in an area of just 16mm². For reference, 65nm Intel Core 2 Duo chips have a die area of 143mm², and going by Intel’s die shots, around a third of that area is required to store 4MB of cache. Z-RAM’s speed and power consumption are quite enticing, too. The second-gen tech clocks up to 400MHz and can draw as little as 10μW (0.00001W) per MHz.

Well, will this latest move enhance their microprocessors and gain a lead over their closest rival? Only time will tell.

Well there is certainly much buzz going around about paid blogging and how companies are paying bloggers to post up reviews and articles for their advertisers. Here is an interesting story regarding paid blogging which you should read:

When PayPerPost launched this past summer, the paid blogging service stirred up a lot of blogger vitriol. The jabs keep on coming, but that hasn’t stopped the self-proclaimed “rockstartup” from scoring VC bucks, winning over thousands of bloggers and spurring a pack of competitors to join the space. From the soon-to-drop LoudLaunch.com to the just-out ReviewMe to South Korea’s beta-phase outfit CREAMaid, a burgeoning pay-to-blog niche is in the offing.

Well there is no doubt in my mind that paid blogging is here to stay and it will definitely have the potential to create many future bloggers who are paid for their writing. It will be a self-contained industry within itself. Blogging, that is.

In fact I will be deeply involved in paid blogging and you can be rest assured that if anyone asks me what is my job, I will answer, “I am a blogger”.

Here is a good article on search engine optimisation for your blog or website. The tips provided in the article are certainly useful and workable although it needs some time for implementation. And if you are patient enough to wait for the results of your implementation, it will not be long before you would have at least generated some fair amount of traffic to your website.

Search engine optimisation is important because it will enable users who are unaware of your blog or website to discover it through the keywords which your website caters to. Some business websites will pay specialised SEO companies to get high rankings for targeted keywords. With the information in the article, you do not have to do that and you are on your way towards optimising your website for search engines.
